# Certifications Overview

> Overview of the Certifications API endpoints and functionality

The Certifications API provides read access to affordable housing certification records (`AffordableQualification`). Certifications represent compliance events tied to a household at a property — including move-ins, annual recertifications, interim certifications, corrections, and terminations.

## Key Concepts

### Certification Types

The `type` field reflects the source certification event:

* `MOVE_IN` — Initial move-in certification
* `INITIAL` — Initial certification (non-move-in)
* `RECERT` — Annual recertification
* `INTERIM` — Interim certification
* `CORRECTION` — Correction to a prior certification
* `TERMINATION` — Termination event
* `MOVE_OUT` — Move-out certification
* `ASSIGN_RA` / `REMOVE_RA` — Assign or remove rental assistance (RD programs)
* `CO_TENANT_TO_TENANT` — Co-tenant to tenant conversion (RD)
* `EVICTION`, `INITIATE_ABSENCE`, `MODIFY`, `TERMINATE_ABSENCE` — Rural Development lifecycle events

### Review Status

The `reviewStatus` field reflects the compliance approval state:

* `APPROVED` — Certification approved
* `DENIED` — Certification denied
* `APPROVED_PENDING_SIGNATURES` — Approved but awaiting signatures
* `HOUSEHOLD_ON_NOTICE_HOLD` — Household on notice or hold
* `PENDING` — Pending review
* `CORRECTION_NEEDED` — Corrections required
* `CORRECTION_NEEDED_FINAL_PACKET` — Corrections needed on final packet
* `PENDING_FINAL_APPROVAL` — Awaiting final approval

### Certification Relationships

* **Households** — Each certification belongs to one household
* **Properties** — Resolved through the household
* **Units** — The unit associated with the certification's tenant event
* **Housing Policies** — The set-aside program and affordability rules
* **Applications** — For `MOVE_IN` certifications, linked to the originating application

### Financial Fields

Certifications carry the financial snapshot at the time of certification:

* `tenantPaymentAmount` — Resident's share of rent
* `assistancePaymentAmount` — HAP/subsidy payment
* `utilityAllowanceAmount` — Utility allowance
* `marketRentAmount` — Market rent for the unit
* `grossRentAmount` — HUD gross rent
* `contractRentAmount` — Gross rent minus utility allowance
* `householdIncomeAmount` — Total household annual income
* `totalDeductionsAmount` — Total household deductions
